In 1709 the first generation Mehofer bought the estate 'Neudeggerhof'. The family has lived and worked for 10 generations, more than 300 years in total, in the Wagram wine region. They focus on typical Austrian grape varieties such as Grüner- and Roter Veltliner. Since 1992, all wines have been certified organic. Keeping in mind the past and working for the future, the aim is to preserve this valuable heritage and thus secure a sustainable future for the next generation.
100% of Weingut Mehofer's heating system is supplied by wood chips made from trees from our own forests. The wine bottles that Mehofer uses are often lighter than others, which means they are able to reduce glass usage and lower CO2 emissions during glass production and transport of the wines. All barrels used to ferment and store these wines are produced by Austrian barrel makers and made from wood from their own or nearby forests.
Mehofer is experimenting with growing new grape varieties in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to better understand the possibilities of the terroir and if the result is positive, the grapes are used for new wines.
The small town of Neudegg is the northernmost place in the Wagram wine region and is located about 320m above sea level. The wines from this area have great finesse and depth.
